Reflection

Like you, I have been reflecting on the year past – going over my diaries and seeing the ups and downs of 2025. This past year has been the toughest one physically of my life – a year I don’t want to repeat! As Mark Lowry said: “All of us are terminal but some of us have had reminders.” But as I went over all of this experience, I decided to list all of the blessings that went along with my illness and over time, I listed 21 of them. I also looked over the wonderful things that happened at the same time in 2025, including another lovely grandchild, Elora, seen above. She is cooing and smiling and a real blessing.
So many good things. I have gone over my prayer list and seen the hand of God in hindsight. I have also grown this past year in learning a bit of compassion. Having been healthy all my life, I think I’ve been weak in compassion. I find myself praying more for people who struggle physically – that’s a good thing.
My extended family had a great evening at my brother Laurie’s place early in the new year. We ate, chatted and then had a singing and sharing time regarding the last year and what is ahead, followed by a great time of prayer. Who knows what the Lord has for us in 2026? I do know that I’ve golfed twice with my brothers already and despite my terrible form it gives me hope for improvement in the new year!
Here's my challenge to you – list your things to be thankful for in 2026. Count your many blessings – name them one by one – and it will surprise you what the Lord has done!!
