Speak Lord

Summertime Harvest

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power…And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints” Ephesians 6:1,18.

Ooh – those fresh cherries! And now the best corn on the cob in Canada! Blueberries, tomatoes, herbs, raspberries are all in harvest. And soon the vast Western Canadian fields of wheat, barley, lentils and peas will be ready.  Maybe this is also true of spiritual harvest in the summer.

People are out and about, camping, travelling, seeing people in unusual settings – a time when people are doing different things than usual. It’s a time when we can sow gospel seed, or even harvest.

I got my hair cut last week and the young barber asked what I do. When I said I was largely retired he pressed – ‘but what did you do?’ When I said ‘pastor’, he said ‘my grandparents took me to church and my uncle and aunt are religious.’ I asked him about his own faith and he spoke of un-involvement. All this time I was communing with the Spirit – ‘if You want me to speak I will but if You don’t give me a word, I will keep quiet.’ We had moved to spirituality in two minutes!

Our church soccer camp is happening this week with 200 children from all backgrounds. They will have a great time and also be presented with the gospel. This is a spiritual opportunity, and many have been praying Ephesians 6 over this time.

A friend asked me about what to say to a non-believing sick friend. What a chance to listen to the Spirit and say what He wants us to say!

Pastor Carol shared recently about campers at Camp Kawkawa who gave their lives to Christ during her week there. This kind of sowing/harvest ministry is happening all across the country right now.

Maybe God has an Encounter for you this summer. Will you be prayed up and ready?
