BLOG: God's Voice

God is a communicator and for sure He can speak in powerful ways, but like Elijah learned in a time of personal crisis, sometimes the voice of the Lord is not in the earthquake or the screaming wind, but in the still small voice. As believers, it is good for us to practice listening for the voice of the Lord.

“The voice of the Lord is above the waters

The voice of the Lord is mighty

The voice of the Lord is majestic

The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars

The voice of the Lord hews out the flames of fire

The voice of the Lord makes the desert whirl

The voice of the Lord whirls the terebinths (trees).”

From Psalm 29

I watched the little video (at the bottom) – it’s only about 40 seconds long but the sense of power gives me goosebumps! And then to imagine the voice of God who made the worlds with the sound of His voice! Sometimes I wish the Lord would speak more loudly to me…I think.

God is a communicator and for sure He can speak in powerful ways, but like Elijah learned in a time of personal crisis, sometimes the voice of the Lord is not in the earthquake or the screaming wind, but in the still small voice. As believers, it is good for us to practice listening for the voice of the Lord.

This past Saturday a group of us spent the day at camp Kawkawa in Hope, learning to listen for the voice of God.

In times of silent prayer among the trees, stilling our hearts for the Holy Spirit to speak, experiencing the community of listening Christians and participating in the Lords Supper, we simply added tools to our prayer tool belt to listen for God. When the time is right, He will speak to us in an appropriate way. We just prepare our hearts for what he may want to say, just like the boy Samuel did when he said: “Speak Lord for your servant is listening.”

In your times in prayer and Word, what might the Holy Spirit be saying to you?
