BLOG: Our Creator God

“How many are thy works, O Lord! In wisdom hast thou made them all; the earth is full of thy creations.” Psalm 104:24

“How many are thy works, O Lord! In wisdom hast thou made them all; the earth is full of thy creations” Psalm 104:24.

Carol and I just returned from a one-week cruise to Alaska – what a wonderful time! The scenery along the way is breathtaking – whales most days, eagles, soaring mountains and the 70-mile-long Hubbard glacier seen above.

Nature lectures were offered on the ship – all about the flora and fauna of this part of the world. As is to be expected, deference was given to time and chance as the originator of all we were seeing. What’s a billion years here or there among friends? It was all quite well-meaning but, in the end, quite laughable as we glided through the

immensity of creation. Rather than humility, we say we know what happened billions of years ago – it all just – kind of – in some way – came to be…

Here’s the thing – what happened is that God made it. He ascribed variety and purpose and traits and worth. It is not the survival of the fittest – tooth and claw. It is the Word spoken – “and God said” – let there be light and land and water and vegetation and animals and fish in the sea and stars, sun and moon above! “So God created man in his own image; in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” Genesis 1:27.

And this all-powerful God has made himself personal to you and me – he wants us to call him Father. He is referred to as Abba which means ‘dad.’ In this summer season when we are outdoors more than usual – we encounter this Lord and Lover afresh. We are not random. We are not purposeless. We are created, loved and precious.

Don’t forget it.
